PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Qari (male Quran reciter) Amirahman Abas emerged as the winner of the Tajwid category at the 5th Kuwait International Prize of the Holy Quran held from March 31 to April 9 in Kuwait.

Wisma Putra in a statement here yesterday said, Amirahman, 31, received the certificate from the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah during the closing ceremony held at the Bayan Palace on Wednesday.

Amirahman, a teacher from Sekolah Menengah Agama Persekutuan Labu, Negeri Sem-bilan, was also the first runner-up of the Malaysian National Quran Recital competition last year.

Besides Amirahman, Malaysia was also represented by Mo-hammed Khairul Abdul Razaq,
